Ocean environment research and surveillance services
Our mission statement

Surface, shallow depth, mid-depth ocean sampling.  Surface to low-altitude atmospheric sampling.  On-board sorting, examination, and frozen storage. High bandwidth satellite internet connectivity. Commercial drone missions, professional digital photography, on-board image processing, library, and transmission capability.  Two RIB tenders, air compressors, diving tankage, and limited SCUBA equipment rounds out Vertex Ocean's scientific support equipment.
Vertex Ocean's primary operations platform is Research Vessel Hermes, a 55-foot exploration-class, aluminum-hulled, shoal draft, sailing sloop built to exacting standards and strength in Brittany, France and custom-outfitted for it's rigorous mission.

Vertex Ocean LLC is an American company focused on providing a low-cost, flexible ocean and environmental research platform. Vertex owners and operators, Mark and Zara Johnson assemble their expertise in project management, geography, analysis, information technology, navigation, and sailing to offer a foundation from which oceanographic and environmental scientists can execute field research either in-situ or remotely, for virtually any location on the planet and at a fraction of the cost of research ships.
Vertex Ocean is now assembling equipment and partners to support ocean and environmental research for extended periods in remote or populated marine environments. The research vessel and associated equipment will be designed to be self-sustaining for months at a time in all weather and climate conditions.  Vertex will accommodate up to four resident scientists or investigators for periods up to 90 days or more.
